  • Shampooches Offers Dog Washes Without the Mess

Morehead City — A new business promises to keep your furry friends clean and fresh without the mess at home.

ShamPooches is the county’s first self-service dog wash, where owners can bring in their pets for a bath without dealing with the cleanup. It opened for business last month at 4010-7 Arendell St. and held its grand opening Saturday.

Owner Brandi Fisher is originally from Pennsylvania and said self-service dog washes are more common where she is from, and she saw a need for something like it in the area.

“It’s popular up north, and when we moved here I thought it would be a great area to do something like this, especially being by the beach,” she said. “There’s lots of dogs on the beach getting dirty, I just thought it would be great to have a convenient place for owners to wash their dogs.”

Ms. Fisher said the unique concept for the area has been well-received so far, by locals and visitors alike.

“People have been pleased. They say they’re happy to have somewhere to wash their dog coming from the beach, it’s more convenient than washing in their own tub or driving home with a dirty dog,” she said. “…It’s been a really positive response.”

Ms. Fisher said the elevated washing tubs are helpful for the elderly and those with mobility issues who cannot easily bend over to wash their pets. The staff fully sanitizes the tubs after every use and provides fresh towels and supplies for each dog..............
