  • Groomer Reopens Business After Devastating Fire

Nearly seven months after a Mother's Day fire destroyed Freddy's Fritters Dog Bakery & Pet Boutique, the business has returned to its original home in the Village of East Davenport.

Owner Tami Grady said the pet grooming and retail business at 1111 Jersey Ridge Road quietly reopened Friday. A May 10 electrical fire destroyed her store, damaged two adjacent shops and displaced four residents.

"We lost all the inventory and our shop kitty died in the fire, but nobody's pets were there and there was no one home in the apartments," she said. "There have been some loyal customers who stuck with us through a very trying time."

Back open just in time for Small Business Saturday, she said "We had a super Saturday and we're hoping we have a good December."

Grady said the reconstruction took a few month longer than she expected because of delays in working with multiple insurance companies and by bringing the historic building up to ADA requirements. Iossi Construction completed both the fire restoration and construction work.

"No matter what, we had to be back in by December for the important holiday time. We're so excited to be in a nice new place," she said..........
