  • Free Pet Grooming Seminar for Pet Owners

I know some groomers who have done these to develop clientele especially as new businesses. They go to other pet businesses that don't offer grooming and host them there.

Redwind Pet Resort and Canine Sports Academy will host a free pet grooming seminar at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at Canine Sports Academy, 30217 Sante Fe Ave. in Norman.
Attendees can learn how to maintain a family pet’s coat and shedding in between regular scheduled grooming appointments.
Redwind Pet Resort owner Jim Baum said the idea for the seminar came to him after grooming a pair of mastiffs. The dogs were shedding, and Baum showed their owner what he could do to take care of them.
“So many people have asked me over the years how to take care of their pet at home,” Baum said.
The seminar will cover the basics for at-home pet care, Baum said.
“We’re not trying to teach people how to groom their poodle or anything; we’re teaching them how to maintain their dog in good, healthy ways, as far as bathing and brushing — when dogs are matted or shedding a lot.”
Baum said the seminar is not meant to take business from pet salon owners.
“It’s strictly for in-between groomings — for people who get their dogs groomed about once a month or so,” Baum said. “They could do things in between that could help maintain their dog’s coat ... They can still have their regular grooming on a monthly basis.
During the seminar, there will be a presentation on creative pet styling that covers scissor and color techniques.
