  • Air Force Assignment Turns Into Paws itive Experience

When John McWilliams joined the Air Force, he thought he’d find a career working in law enforcement. Instead, through an unusual series of events, he ended up spending his life working with dogs.

“In those days, only three percent of the Air Force flew. Everything else was ground support so I signed up to be a security policeman. My DI (drill instructor) said they’re opening up two jobs for dog handlers, who wants to be a dog handler? I go, well, me,” said McWilliams, who lives in Randolph with his wife Erin, a cat, horses and a few dogs.

“It’s a nice way to spend some time in the company of dogs. They had a pilot program called Green Dog. I was lucky. I was in the first program. I was just in the right place at the right time. They actually taught me how to train dogs.”...........
