SUTHERLIN — About a dozen dogs dressed up for the occasion. Some came as fairies, others as prisoners, hot dogs or witches. Bullet, his mother’s service dog, watched stoically from a distance with a long, blue cape decorated with a capital “U” waving subtly in the wind.
He was Underdog. A hero.
Bullet, the service dog of Sarena Moore who was lost in the shooting at Umpqua Community College, had been in the classroom when a gunman killed Moore and eight others, injured nine and victimized thousands.
In the aftermath of the shooting and the loss of his owner and friend, Bullet became depressed and withdrawn. His jet black ears became less rigid than usual, his permanent smile more of a longing pant.
On Saturday, members of the Sutherlin Woofstock Festival, PawPrints Grooming and the Sutherlin Area Chamber of Commerce organized a Halloween pet parade and carnival to celebrate Bullet and to help the 5-year-old, 100-pound Malamute mix feel like a dog again.....
