• Melissa VerPlank in Seattle...

Hey Spikey....Stephen was at the seminar! I hear pictures might get posted <grin>!

Had a great time. Always learn something new. Great turnout...I believe they said 80 attended. But the Northwest is pretty good at attending functions, as they are so few and far between.

Had to laugh...Melissa mentioned that she had just come from Utah and did some skiing. She had never skied in 70 degree weather before. Oh gosh...I always thought spring skiing was the ONLY way to go!!! Skis and T-shirts beats cold and blowing snow anyday!

Oh...and the answer to your question on the dog that she used scissors and a comb to dematt....you had meant to ask her why she just hadn't shaved it.
It was her "one miracle" dog....she was cutting off half the coat, cutting through the matts to make combout easier and quicker, and using the scissors as a blocking guide to keep from cutting the dogs skin. When she was done with the scissors and comb, there was a few inches of matted coat left on the dog instead of 8 inches....so she had less length to dematt.
She then used a 1 snap-on comb to finish.

All in all, a very good show. Hope others will make the effort to attend when she comes to their area.

Stephen Pictures!!!

Well, here it is.
The seminar was so much better than I could have ever imagined.
But the best part was traveling across the state with my new groomer friend Ruggins. This business has a ton of perks.

Dogma, sounds fun, I told her to tell Stephen Hello for me. I agree, spring skiing is the way to go. It has been warm lately, but she was probably sliding on all the ice---the snow was very crusty.

Anyway, I actually didn't mean "why didn't she just shave the dog?" I meant, WHY DID SHE SCISSOR OFF THE HAIR SHE COMBED UP, rather than clip it off? Does that make sense? I stick my comb under the mat and then shave over the comb.

The dog was gorgeous, wasn't it? They both were!

Oh Tammy...I misunderstood the question. Yes, you can do that technique with a clipper too...but if the mats are too thick, it is difficult and scissors make it a little easier.

Now, I've been told a couple of times to be careful when doing this (using scissors or clippers), but I'm not quite sure why.

Can the skin really make it through the comb and get sliced? How likely is it? Anybody know? I've done it once or twice before, no problem with skin coming through, but don't want to take any chances.

Awesome

I had the best time. It was wonderful to meet everyone. I had the best time meeting and sharing lunch with TAILSRWAGON and Ruggins. They are both awesome and I wish they didn't live so far away

Stephen was so great to meet also. He is very humble in person, I think he is the bestest ever. I don't know how he does it all. We are very lucky to have this forum and his expert knowledge at our disposal.

Melissa was so fabulous. It was nice to hear her thought process on her books.

If you can go see her at one of her seminar, I highly recommend it.

And Stephen, I swear you look just like my uncle's twin bro!
