  • Marketing in super-affluent areas

    Hi Everyone!
I'm struggling to find effective marketing ideas for the super wealthy neighborhoods. Coupons and discounts will not capture the attention of someone who drives $60,000 car and a multi-million $$ home. I have left impressive flyers and pamphlets with local dog daycare and vets. I have joined Meetup.com to get with people living in my market area(any animal related groups, yoga groups such) so i can have more face-to-face meets. I park in the most expensive grocery lots and well-traveled areas for optimum exposure. So if anyone has a idea, please please let me know. I have also just started more online advertising. Thanks so much for your help!

I actually found my most affluent customers through CL. I know it seems that because they have so much money they would't look there or clip coupons etc. But I know firsthand, my aunt and uncle are extremely wealthy and my aunt still clips coupons, price shops etc. Of course for certain things, if she wants it she just buys it. Years ago she drove passed the Lexus dealership and there was a pearlized white ES400 with gold trim. She got home, called the salesman, told him she thought it was pretty and wanted it and he drove it over to her the next day. But I find people who have money still tend to be careful with it and will still try to save money when they can.

We have quite a few affluent neighborhoods in my service area and we advertise in their neighborhood newsletter. Ours goes out on the 1st of the month and the whole 2nd week of the month my phone goes crazy!!
You can also try checking with realtors. They like to impress their clients with "whats available" in the neighborhood.. ..Another thing I like to do, and this is providing you have the graphics on your trailer/van...I drive thru the school zones in the afternoon. Parents are lined up waiting for their kids to get out of school...drive slow....Also, check with your local schools..the high schools usually print out a calendar once a year with sports dates on it and they are always looking for advertisers....
If I think of anything else, i will let you know...Good Luck

Well I have pulled the trigger on something new. Its going to cost me some money to do this advertisting but I was quite shocked that it was less expensive the other mediums.

A local movie theater has on screen advertisting. They play 15 and 30 sec commercials for local business people. My ad is going to air in all 10 theaters before every movie for 6 months. It was cheaper than print advertising and believe it or not cheaper than the yellow pages.

I will average 12000 impressions every month.

I used to get good part time jobs as a teenager by going in and sitting at the bar in one of the nicer restaurants that used to be in town. I'd order a Sprite and throw in a swizzle stick. I'd BS with all the local businessmen who used to drink there after work. Kind of felt like a hooker but hey, it worked.

You don't really have to focus on just the wealthy people. Dog lovers are everywhere and some are willing to pay more for their babies. Some of my good clients are not the wealthy people. Anyhow, my most expensive marketing is advertising in the local newspaper. I had a contract with them for a year and the it runs 3 days a week, plus a banner on their website that pop up on the computers that have some pet related history. It's well worth it. I now believe that referral and words of mouth is the best advertising. I started to have more and more referral clients now. Do you have any children? My kids are quite active in after school activities so I know a lot of parents. I used to be quiet but since I had my business, I was more out going. I try to talk to other parents as much as I can and let them know who I am. Some of those family are the wealthy people, so that's how I get my name out. Also, I would try to find out if your local schools are having a cardinal so some kind of family event and donate your gift certificate to them for a raffle or silent auction. I have done that a couple of times for my clients. It just takes time but eventually you will find the right clients for you. PS. not every wealthy client is a good tipper.
