  • GRRR Unthoughtful client who thought he was being thoughtful

Yesterday there were 2 Goldens that were supposed to come in at 8:30. They owner insisted on this time. 8:30 comes and goes. 9 rolls around and nothing. 9:30 comes and he calls, doesn't apologize, just tells my boss that he changed his mind and would be in at 10. 10 comes and goes. 10:30 rolls around and finally shows up. He thought he did good by calling and saying he'd be in later. He called when he was already late and then still showed up even later than when he'd said. I told my boss that if this was back in NY where I had my shop, I would have said,"Ok, 10am, on what day? Because you're not coming in today now." Why can't people understand, they book around our schedule, not theirs... LOL.....

That's what I like about mobile grooming....I decide what time the appointments are, and the customers can't foul up my day (unless of course they don't show, which has only happened to me once).

Similar thing happened to me last wk. I normally have my 1st dog in at 9( not a morning person), but a lady really needed 8am, and it was a slow week so I thought why not, booked her in for 8, woke up earlier than I normally would, got everything ready , and she didn't show. I call her house at 8:30, wake her up, she says she's still in bed can I come tomorrow, I give her a 12:00 appt. Next morning I wake up to doorbell( 7:45am), answer door in my pjs and there's a lady with the dog in her arms. She says she's delivering the dog for her adult daughter and she told her 8. I tell her it's for 12, so she says she'll be back then. Then the adult daughter calls at 11. She says she just woke up and the dog looks the same as it did yesterday, did I groom it? So I remind her that the dog has a 12pm appt, will they be able to bring him in for 12? She says oh yeah. They dropped him off at 12:30. It was very frustrating. I'm learning to be pickier about who I schedule outside regular hours, but I seem to be a slow learner in this area.

I don't put up with customers that are more than 15 min. I can't work them back into my day. So if you are late you have to make another appointment.
And if they are ALWAYS late then I make their appointment for 1/2 hr before I need them there so NOW they are always on time.

I'm with Plexi on this one. If they are late, they reschedule. Yes, they get upset but you cant bend over backwards for them because they will do it again.
I also charge a fee for people who "forgot" thier appoinments but just made it 2 days ago.
Alot of people don't take our profession seriously, so we need to prove them otherwise. We are not "Just the dog groomer"

I had one a couple of weeks ago that was just too tired to answer the door. She called me when I was at my next stop. I told her I would call her back. So, I have extra time and tell Her I am on my way. She finally answers the door. Sorry, she said. I worked a double shift and I am sooo tired. Well whatever. I groom her dog go back to the door and she says I am too tired to write you a check can I give it to your hubby tomorrow at work. I was like. FINE! This will NEVER happen again. I told hubby if she pulls this **** again she is gone.

Wow, what nerve! I would have asked for the check then and there. When we go to Wal-mart, we cant use the excuse, I'm too tired to pay for this right now, can I come back tomorrow? I wouldn't want her as a client, friend of hubby's or not. I wonder if she pulled that with pizza delivery.
I also have clients who work the night shift, if they have an early appoinment, they show up with thier dogs in thier p.j.'s. I dont care. They dont care. )

I would have been fumeing over the too tired to write a check. I hope she's one of your usuals that you can count on to give it to your husband. I would never have the nerve to ever think to say something like that to someone.

Too tired to write a cheque? That's crazy. I'd want to have cash or cheque in my hand before I groom next time or I'd be too tired of her **** to groom her dog.

There's a guy that brings his dog into my work to board. When he comes back to pick him up, sometimes he'll say that he's to excited to see his dog and asks if he can pay the next day, he just wants to get his dog home. (we think that something not so right goes on in that house) But he always pays and he only does it once in a while so my boss lets him go without paying. He always comes in the next day to pay. Plus the dog is an extreme regular, he's in for boarding or daycare at least twice a week.

Lol that is the best excuse ever.. I am too tired to write a check?? How about I am too tired to groom your dog?? I am sure she wouldn't like that one.
What is wrong with people? I mean it's not like that guy would call his Dr.'s office and say " yeah know that time isn't going to work for me, I changed my mind.. I'll be in at X time.. " I feel sometimes like we are treated like servants, not humans.

Hey, next time I go somewhere... to get groceries, gas, a fancy dinner, whatever... I think I might be TOO TIRED to write a check then, too!! LOL Too funny...

...but you know, Diamie, in your situation I think I would have been "too tired of B.S." to give the dog back until I saw some cash!!

"I'm too tired to write the check".... haven't heard that one before. I can't believe she had enough nerve to say that.

I have had a couple of regular clients that may have forgotten their checkbooks, sometimes even their money but I always get paid either later that day or the next.
