I can't wait until I am so busy I have to start firing some clients. I already know who the first one will be. She owns a Wheaton and likes him left pretty long (Snap A). She wants to come every four months or so, but I told her six weeks at the most and he's still matted when he comes in. First appointment she was a no show, no call or anything. Next appointment she was an hour late. Third appointment, she arrived on time but was two hours late picking up, no apology or anything. Now today she had an appointment for 8:30. She pulls into my driveway at 8:45 but doesn't come in. I go to the door and look out, she waves to me. 9:00 comes and goes, shes still in the driveway. I again go to the door and she waves at me. Finally at 9:30 she strolls in and laughs and say, Oh I was talking to my friend from Boston, ha ha. I was steamed. I tell her she must be back at 1:30 at the latest because I had a doctor appointment. She promises me she will. Okay, she comes at two with no apology or explanation. Some people really tick me off!!!

I know the feeling I have a couple I would like to fire. One of them is always late coming to dropoff and pickup It drives me crazy. I am not and cannot be (according to city zoning) a doggy daycare or kennel
So I always just bite my lips as aside from the beisng late she is really a nice lady"Whoever Said That Money Can't Buy Happiness Forgot About Puppies"

I wouldn't wait until you are "busy nough" to fire her, I would do it the next time she calls. 3 times is my limit, after that I suddenly become so busy that "Fluffy" can't get an appointment for months. I got tired of being wakled on by clients and stood up for myself. To me, the stress is not worth the money that I would make by keeping such a client.

I will usually explain...like talking to a child...lol...that my time is important too. 20 minutes past appt. time...you must reschedule and pre-pay for next appt. That usually fixes them or sends them elsewhere.
As far as pick ups...agree on a time, let them know you need the kennel space, if they are not there by 1:30pm, the time you agree upon, there is a $5/per 15 minute fee.
Once the money starts coming out of their pockets, they shape up or ship out. It's sometimes hard being that upfront with people, but if you aren't from the get go they WILL walk all over you.

Well, an 8:30 appointment that doesn't bother to walk through the door until 9:30 because she's talking on the phone doesn't get her dog groomed that day. She has to reschedule...if I feel like keeping her as a client.
Dr. Phil says we teach people how to treat us. Stop laying down and letting this woman walk on you. Let her know, politely of course, that if she's more than 10 minutes late, she'll have to reschedule. If she's late to pick up, and doesn't have a good excuse, like being abducted by aliens, it'll be her last appointment. Stuck in traffic is usually not a good enough excuse; plan ahead. Talking on the phone to a friend in Boston (or anywhere else) is NEVER a good enough excuse.

Wanna be who had to deal with this in another biz
Hi, I'm new and just learning, but I had this type of thing happen in my other business which was a nail salon. (She sounds like an old client of mine, ha ha)
When I was starting out I did not want to loose a single client and I would put up with "ANYTHING" to keep every client and to make sure that every client was happy.
Well, I finally learned that it is not my job to make people happy. It's my job to give my clients excellent service!
This type of client will affect the service and appointments of the valuable clients who are respectful of your professionalism.
