  • The nerve of some people...

Ok, so I wake up in a great mood today, even though I had NO clients sheduled today. Ive only been open a few months. Anyway a woman called last friday and had to get her poodle in for a B&B at 3pm!!! i said I couldnt because I had to leave at three and offered her monday. she said no, how about 2? I said ok(i know, idiot) and she said if I cant be ther by two then dont worry about it. Very rude! She doesnt show so I forget all about her. Well she calls again today at 11:30. I took 4 walk-ins today, I work alone and had to leave at 3 again for my son's first baseball game of the season. And lemme just say I do this on fridays b/c unlike the rest of the south, I dont close for lunch nor do groomers ever take breaks. anyway, she had to get in at 3 again. she said what is that every friday. I said most. so she suggested two again, rudely and I refused. Offered her a saturday, which im normally closed. she said no, good. then she was going to come in another time untill she asked the price. I told her how much and she went nuts saying i get her done once a week and the other groomer charges me 8 bucks! and wanted me to do it for her at that price. I said no, I cant. i said obviously you have a good deal with them and i cant match that. if she did infact return on a weekly basis, I could give her a discount and she hung up on me! it totally ruined my day and all day Ive been thinking about her. how rude! thanks for the vent~

I feel for ya... Some people just need to stay where they are. They obviously don't like what the other groomer does if she's trying to find a new one, so she's gonna realize she has to pay more for a better job probably.

      Oh Puuhllleeeeeeze

      8 dollar?

Do you believe that? Not me.

The walk in wash in town costs 16.

The car wash costs more than that.

An 8 dollar groom? Does the woman know what year it is? I'd consider paying her 8 bucks to stay away from me. She sounds like she'd be annoying to deal with. Probably worked out for the best.

People always seem to want something for nothing. It happens all the time.

Why should you let someone like this ruin your day? Roll your eyes and laugh. You avoided the bullet.

Next time someone tells you the other groomer only charges $8 tell them "WOW! That's a really good price! You should go back there. In fact, tell me who it is so I can have them groom MY dog."

              Thanks...

You all are so right. I guess I was upset b/c Im new and all customers are important, but I know in my heart that she would be a PITA everytime she calls. And REALLY, 8 dollars come on. She said she wanted to try me out and see how I did because Im closer. Next time she calls, let the machine answer. thank goodness for caller ID

8 bucks?? Please!! You should ask her who is doing poodles for $8 so you can outsource your dogs to them & still make money.

Seriously, you don't want an $8 customer. Be glad she hung up on you.

                  youre right

I guess for 8 dollars I could have bathed her poodle and handed it over soaking wet. That would have taken care of her too.... lol sorry, I guess I can laugh about it now...

Whenever someone calls and says that their old groomer did it for such and such, it's always so hard not to roll my eyes, and tell them to go back to them, lol.

Ohhh, I thought it was just me!

I have been at a brand new petsomething for a month now and I have that happen almost every day! The only problem is after I groom their dog then they go to the cash register and complain and get the price for less than quoted. Of cource I make commission so I always loose out! I had a couple of dogs a couple of days ago and they told me they looked great, then came back a day later and went to the store manager and got a total refund on one of the dogs. To top it off they made another appointment and the bather told them there would be no charge for one of the dogs!!!! So I would be loosing comm for grooming that dog twice.

Is this the same lady that says a groomer should charge by the pound. I read that on another thread. I think her dog was 8 lbs. $8.00!
What does a dog do on it's day off?

Oh no no no.... you can't let this happen to you if you work on comission. Talk to the higher ups. It is NOT right for the cashier to lower the price or the bather to offer a free groom off of your back!!! Girl, you have to stick up for yourself or you will end up doing freebies all the time. IMO if the mgmt feels a freebie is in order THEY should pick it up, not you. If this is something that happens alot because they feel your grooms are not up to par than they need to deal w/that by putting you on notice or something, but it is NOT right for you to not get paid for work you did!

                            commission

Sassy, you need to talk to your manager. That is not the way its suppose to work. You get commission for every dog that you do. If they want to lower the price for whatever, they can do that to keep the customer, but you still get 50% of the regular groom price. When we have little contests at our shop, the winner gets a free groom. And we make commission from that too.

That's right! I'm still learning to stick up for myself in this area, too. IMO, the only time I think you shouldn't get paid is if YOU cause a serious flub up. Like injuring the dog, depending on the circumstances/severity. Or if you do something entirely different from the groom the owner wanted [agreed upon]. (Where I work, the owner has to sign the work order after we write out the instructions.) So if the groomer doesn't do what was agreed upon, they shouldn't get paid. [IE. one groomer shaved a shih tzu with a #7 when it was supposed to get a #3. No, the dog wasn't matted; the groomer was in a rush and grabbed the instructions from the wrong kennel. He agreed it was his fault and didn't make the owner pay.] Yeah, I know there's a lot of gray area in this, but it's just my opinion. :-)
