Smile How much vacation do you take

I take about a week a year. I was talking with a groomer today who owns her shop that has no employees. She is in frigid area of Wisconsin. She closes for 4 to 6 weeks and chases the sun to Florida. She said 4 weeks is normal though as some pet owner think 6 weeks is too long between grooms but they are a minority.

Does anyone else do this. It must be a weather thing right? Almost every shop I know is basically ever closed except some extra days for holidays. I would sure have to redo my whole budget not having money come in for a month to pay for the shop.

About 2-3 weeks in the summer, but with advanced notice to clients.

We take the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving, so 3 days there
We take Christmas Eve day through New Years Day. So 9 days there.
I take one Friday off a month in the summer for usually 3-4 months. 3-4 days.
I’m up to 15-16 days now.

Plus those days like Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July.
Wedding Anniversary is important to husband so I take a few days there.
If we go to a big seminar like Hershey we take extra sightseeing days.

Gosh, it sounds like I’m never at work doesn’t it.
I found out long ago that the world still turns if you take a day or more off. I give my employees paid vacation days too.

I book clients for the year, so no one misses an appointment. It works for us. And has been working for almost 40 years.

I couldn't take a full week or 2 for a few years once I had employees. You know my 30th year I can take 2 weeks a year but spread it out works best. Except my family occasionally does an Alaska cruise, and yes I couldn't go for a long time, but we have done that. Now they want to do Caribbean cruise but not really interested. I want to do a Greek cruise!! Need at least 2 weeks. You caught me dreaming tonight for another cruise. Caribbean is wonderful but want something more exotic after 30 years in grooming LOL.

Violet2....my Philosophy is that “you pick a day and go”.

Once the dates are booked off in your appointment book the rest will just fall into place.
    You’ll pick your cruise.
    You’ll buy your airline tickets.
You’ll figure out who will watch your pets while your gone.
    You’ll get new clothes.
    Etc etc etc
And you will get on the cruise and be so happy you did.

After 30 years of grooming you deserve a Dream Cruise.
Post pix when you get back!!!

I'm fortunate that in the UK its the law that all workers are entitled to 20 days paid holiday plus the 8 bank holidays too.

I try to book my dates as soon as I know what they are and usually its 5 days at a time, however this year hubby and I are treating ourselves to 10 nights in corfu In October. Its an anniversary gift to ourselves from last year.

Violet2, I woukd strongly recommend Greece, it's stunning! The food is amazing and the people are lovely.

In total, probably three weeks but not all at once.

We give 1 weeks paid after a year. Managers get two weeks paid, but none during our season (winter) are given. Our head bather just took off for her wedding, but that was a special occasion. We will give a day off for special things, but with notice.
