Huh Vet recommends Head and Shoulders Shampoo!

    and it worked!!

The dog is an elderly shihtzu. For the last 5 or 6 months she has had yellow, greasy/waxy substance at the base of most of her nails. The nails were normal, but the skin at the base of the nails was irritated and so was the skin between the pads. She had 3 baths (one by me, two at home) with Head and Shoulders Sensitive. And it's gone. The vet told the owner it was a fungus.

    Default Amazing!

Head and Shoulders People shampoo and recommended for a dog?
What about all the hype about PH?
And a vet not recommending his own magic elixir, outstanding!
Around here they would sell the customer some concoction that they bottled up
    for mega bucks.
    Good for that Vet.

Zinc is inthe H&S and it DOES clear up many skin issues. So does Selsun Blue. Old school, but still works.

    Wink

I have a ST.P. client that does the dog prior to my grooming him with Selsun Blue (as per the vet), he has S.A. I've had many dogs that were done with this shampoo or H.S, after a ver recommended it.

Default I am surprised the vet

didn't try to sell an overpriced Med shampoo. I have heard of Selsun Blue recommended by a vet, not H&S.

Selsun Blue and Head and shoulders BOTH have the same active ingredient of Zinc. The one is stronger than the other. That is basically the difference.

PH is a joke. There are studies out there that prove it. You wil find a huge range of PH levels in dog shampoos. Each is different depending on what it does. ALso, PH levels itself out on skin after a short period, and you WATER PH affects the shampoo more than you would think, so it might be a 4 on the scale, then add water and its an 8, and vice versa....all hype designed to sell products. You do realize that many many show dogs are done in Pantene and Tresemme and IVORY and Dawn and a myriad of other human stuff don;t you? GO to any dog show or grooming competition and you will see so many hair products for humans you will not believe you are not at a human hair salon. SERIOUSLY.

wow what a great tip! I have a shih tzu with the same problem and I am going to try this.

At first I just thought it was dirt around the nails.. but it seems to be in between the toes now as well.
There is so much wisdom here!! Thank you all.

Default Well if they can use H&S

then I guess I can say I have sprayed my hair 6 x this week w/my silicone product to see if I could get my hair silkier. Japanese, course hair that now has grey in it and way too much hair. I don't know if its working but I am starting to bark.
