Default Anybody else have SharkFin shears?

I just bought a pair at PetQuest and I love them!! They are really really easy on the hands and so much more "flexible". I know that sounds wierd to say about scissors, but you can reach around so much better with them. They look so odd in the pics I've seen, but when I got to try one....wow! They are wonderful. Anybody else have a pair?

I just bought 2 pair. I have the 7.5" curves (bought them to use on my toy poodle and other small dogs), and a pair of thinning shears. The thinners have an issue which will be fixed shortly, but when I first used them, WOWOWOWOWOW!

    Default YEP, and

DH is a certified Shark Fin sharpener. That means he can sharpen Shark Fins, without you having to send them in to the company and your warentee is still good (well if you are in our area)! In fact the pair they sent him to be sharpend...(which he did, got certified on the first try) actually had an issue and had to go back to the factory for a fix of the tip! Randy was so impressed that DH could sharpen them, even with the messed up tips!

I have that pair back, and they work really nice. My problem is that they are the swivel thumb, and I still think they are fish tailing at the tips, they cut great, they just feel different. I just have to get the hang of them. I love them for my Bichons.

My next one will be a pair if the Chunkers., Now I just have to decide if I want them in the swivel thumb...

I've looked at them, my one concern is the maker says we all hold our shears wrong. That we are supposed to put our thumb in to the first knuckle as well as the ring finger I believe. Has nothing to do with the quality of the shears I know, but the topic made me think of it.

I'm sorry, it's between the first and second knuckle on the ring finger and up to the cuticle on the thumb. I reread what was written!

Maybe he misspoke when he talked to you, because he said the opposite to me. And he said that that is why they make so many different finger whole sizes so that you can't put your fingers in too far.

He posted it on another board actually with links to videos on how to properly hold them. I'll have to go back and check again, but I remember just about everyone posting that there was no way they could ever hold their shears the way he was saying to.

Here is what Randy posted on another site about his shears and the fit

"Another fact..A correctly fitted shear belongs between the first and second knuckle on your ring finger and should go up to but not over your cuticle on your thumb. This is a fact not SHARK FIN'S opinion."

I have worked with Randy for a while now. His idea of how a shear should fit is not his, it is an industry standard that has been out there since before Sharkfin. He is very open and honest about that. His finger rings are unique and patented but the idea of what is correct has been around a long time. In fact, In a recent seminar, Pam and Scott from the ISCC taught holding shears the same way. It gives you a lot more control over the blade and your lines. If you get the opportunity to see Scott Wasserman doing scissor work you will see why it works.

IMO, fixing messed up tips is one of the most useful skills a sharpener can develop. It's really common for sharpeners to mess up the tips on convex shears. If DH can consistently repair damaged tips then he is already doing better than many sharpeners.

Yes! I got a pair at Atlanta Pet Fair and LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I wanted to get another pair there at Petquest, but it wasn't in the budget for this show.

Oh by the way, it was very nice meeting you at PetQuest. We will have to get together sometime since your not all that far away.

I was pleased to meet you too I Care! Would definitely enjoy getting together sometime!

Azoci~ Aren't they all the swivel ring? Well anyway, I think you have to hold them right (more firmly and with more finger in the finger holes....as they instruct) it feels different at first but once you get the hang of it, you have as much control or better. I think that would eliminate the swivel tip effect.

Just got mine from pet quest. They just came in today. I got the double swivel 9" curves. Can't wait to go to work and try out my new toy.

It tried them and don't like them. I can't flip the curves.
