I just bought some new wahl blades. I read somewhere that andis blades are ready to be used right out of the box, but oster blades need to be cleaned first. I was wondering if wahl blades are ready to use like andis or do they need to be cleaned in a blade wash first?

Hello all!

I am currently a grooming assistant in IL and will be going to a grooming school with in the next month. I am a full time college student as well and am hoping to use grooming to help pay for school. I have recently adopted an Italian Greyhound I named Calliope, we are struggling with health issues from prior neglect but she is a great little companion. Hope to learn a lot from everyone on here!

I was researching Mobile grooming vans and ran into this "ALL About “Mobile” Dog Grooming Training Package" Its a training video on converting a grooming van yourself. Does anyone have experience with it. Its pricy. I am sure you can figure it out by your self but I was thinking something like this would be helpful. Is there anything else out there like this? Maybe a website or something that may be free or cheaper. I just and looking into mobile grooming to see if it would work for me. I am not ready to commit to it yet.

I am starting to look into mobile grooming. We already have one in are area but I'm thinking it would still be a great addition to my current place of work. That way when people want to save a little dough they can just come to my shop in our doggie daycare. We are booked about 2weeks out right now and I think if I worked more I could bring in more clients. To do this I would have to add more kennels, tables dryers, etc.( I work for someone but I know she wont be able to get all these things for me. I would have to do it on my own. If I did the mobile thing It would be all mine and I would work something out with her so we could be affiliated with each other but separate. Maybe advertising for the doggie daycare on the van would be enough for her. dont know. ) Soon I will need to go back to full time and I was thinking maybe mobile is the way to go (currently we have two groomers and I would have to share the space with the other groomer during the middle of the week). I want as much info as I can get so any advice you guys found helpful would be great. What if any books, videos or websites did you find most helpful?

As I was rolling off the EDGE of my tempurpedic queen size bed. How many of us dog/cat lovers share our beds with them? I'll admit that I start out with 2 of the dogs on the bed. But by the AM my Boxer has joined the rest of the pack:) I'm glad I'm single....lol!

I wrote up sample language that can be used for: employment documents, signs posted in employee areas, pre-hiring discussion. As a model, I referred to anti-discrimination and anti-harrassment policy language from http://smallbusiness.findlaw.com/emp...-policies.html
I am not a lawyer. My own opinion is that it is important to have policies, because some new hires will come from salons or schools where rough treatment was allowed. Also, some new hires don't have handling skills and need your guidance. The guidelines may provide a starting point for discussions and training.
Most of all, I think new hires need to know they will not be punished for telling the salon owner/manager about abuse they have witnessed. People need their jobs. Sometimes the abuser is a bully towards humans too. In a safe workplace, employees don't need to fear losing hours if they express concerns.


Anti Pet-Mistreatment Policy (or Compassionate Pet Care Policy)

This salon is committed in all areas to providing a grooming environment that is free from pet mistreatment. Mistreatment will not be tolerated. All employees, including supervisors, are expected and required to abide by this policy. No person will be adversely affected in employment with the employer as a result of bringing concerns to management about witnessed pet mistreatment.

Optional language (Define mistreatment as you wish)
Pet mistreatment includes but is not limited to:
Striking or slapping a pet, with vigor, using hands or tools.
Repeatedly screaming at pets.
Subjecting pets to intense heat.
Restraining or handling pets in a manner that exerts strain on their body. Examples include lifting the rear legs above hip level.
Dangling or hanging pets using the groomer’s loop or manually.

I have a 10F wide blade which is straight across but the teeth look nothing like a regular 10 Finish blade. I was reluctant to use it because it doesn't pick up any hair (its almost like using a 4F blade). I decided to go against the lay of the hair and it worked like a charm. Is this the right method for using a 10F Wide blade?

Hi all I just have to say that I'm always hesitant to post pics of my dogs because I never think they look good enough and am afraid I'll never feel confident in my grooming - will I ever be a good groomer? I guess I have to bite the bullet and brace myself for critiques....

I have an old Metro AF-1 that doesn't owe me anything - it's been great dryer but kind lacking in the drying oomph department as I have siberians. I finally got a K9 II and I am in love with it! I feel like washing every dog I own just so I can dry them FAST! I thought the recirculating bather was a lifechanger of the "what the heck have I been doing all these years" type of thing but this dryer is such an improvement.
