View Full Version : The new PETICURE power nail file

I bought this new file at the US Pet Pro Classic in Dallas and wanted to tell you about it.

First, here is their website: www.peticure.com

I like it because it is not quite as loud as the dremel, I don't have to inhale all of that ground nail powder (usually when I use a dremel, I have to BLOW toward the dog's foot while I'm filing so I don't inhale that nasty ground nail powder!).

But the best part is how safe it is---the long hair on the ears and feet can no longer get caught and wrapped around the tool! I LOVE IT.

PS: Keyray and FormalPoodle bought one also!

Thanks for the update. I read about this on another thread the other day and went to the website. It sounds great and now that I have "real" feedback, I think I'll go ahead and get one. I emailed the company to see if they have any wholesale programs. Looks like the little one would be great for people who want to do their own dog's nails. Wouldn't mind selling them if we could get a good price for resale.

Ooh, that looks really cool. I'm going to have to get one of those. I like it how the dust doesn't go all over. Thanks, Tammy!

My, that movie on the site was soooo horribly cheesy. Gack!

I got the Pedicure Elite. I really like that it has two batteries.

So far I really like it because you can't get the hair wrapped around the bit. The only thing that I find more difficult is that I can't always see exactly where the hole the nail fits into. But that really is a minor thing, so far I am completely happy with it.

I bought the big one too. So far I love it. There is some dust leakage from the bottom but at least it all falls into a little pile and not into the air. I think the problem could be solved by a small rubber o ring being placed on the unit where the cap comes off. It is amazing to see just powder how much powder is collected after one set of nails.

Hey keyray can you update us after using it for a week. I really like it from the looks but am questioning how well the nails fit in to the file hole. I have two standard longhair standard doxies that I dremmel and it looks a little easier to deal with than a dremmel. Also, are you able to see how far you're going on the nail?

Thank you so very much!!

The guy said if I dropped it and it broke, he'd replace it. My dremel mini mite? My former boss dropped it and it still worked if I pushed up on the battery pack but now it wont work at all. Piece o' hud!

On the top of the unit is a plastic-like cover that goes over the portion that holds in the dust. In that plastic cover are holes of various sizes so that you can fit various sized nails in it. You hold it just like you would the dremel, but you put the tip of the nail through the hole----it can't go any farther than the tip of the nail because the file bit itself is right there in the way. It just files away as you move the unit over the nail.

I hope this helps.

It sounds good!

Could someone who is using it tell me if you think it would work on a dog with nails that curl right around the pad? I have a pug who comes every three weeks just for a nail trim because her nails grow around the pad-looks like two letter "c" nested together. Some of her nails are so close to the pads that I worry about hitting the pad with the dremel and it is difficult to get an emery board between the nail and the pad. If you think this tool would help, I'll buy it in a heartbeat!

Thanks!

I just watched the video. Looks nice. My question or questions I guess are these:

1- Is it heavy?
2- How do you get the dewclaws in that thing?
3- It looks really big and bulky, is it?

How do you tell if you're close to the quick? Is the sanding band right against the hole so you can still see the nail, so you know when to stop sanding?

After getting a dremel from Petedge...I was not impressed...It was bulky and awkwardly balanced. My husband suggested we take a trip to Home Depot where I found and bought the Dremel Stylus...$70...It's shaped like a gun so it fits your hand and it is balanced really well. I can use it to clean my blades and polish my shears too...Love it...I like multiple use gadgets!!!

I also purchased the Peticure at the Dallas pet pro classic and have to say I am a little disappointed.

I'm sure that this is a new product and that the kinks can be worked out if they just change a few things.

The main reason I purchased it is because of the safety with the hair.

However, it is almost impossible to get a rounded and smooth nail. It leaves the nail more just as if you had clipped it with nail clippers: a flat, sharp edge. This is because the nail cannot be rounded due to it pressing flat against the sanding edge because of the way the plastic guard holes are. I even set it on the largest hole, for the smallest nails, and still can't seem to be able to manipulate it in a way to smooth the edges of the nails. You can't get under the nail to smooth the under-edge. I like to take off the sides, bottom, and top to help quicks recede....but with this you can only sand flat edge.

To the post about it being able to be used with nails curved back against the pads : NO.......it is a bit bulky and cannot be slid like that between pad and nail when curved. You might be able to accomplish it somehow....but not very easily.

Also there is no visibility that way. And, there is still nail shavings and powder, that gets into the air....just maybe not as much.

It's ok to have on hand for long haired dogs that you want to quickly sand nails instead of trimming to avoid the pressure from the nail trimmers, but the regular dremmel made specifically for groomers and dog nails, is much better.

I walked up to the booth at the PPC and watched the large TV there with the video for a second and said I'll take two... so I bought two Elites (the one with the variable speed and two batteries.) My assistant now uses a Dremel cordless (7.2v)... but catches hair sometimes and skins her knuckles ALL the time. The cordless dremel is ok with hair as it stops pretty easily since the battery is getting old and weak ... lol.

Anyway, a week later and here are my comments about it.....

That first night at hotel after I bought it, I used it on my giant schnauzer and it was ok just not powerful enough for me and you can't see the nail as you grind it. Plus the powder didn't stay in very well... BUT it wasn't going all over my hand and my dog (that was a good thing). I attributed the weaker power to the fact it was not fully charged. I loved that it wouldn't wrap up hair or skin knuckles.

However.... before I finished his 4 feet, I noticed a horrible smell coming from mine... the sandpaper bit had not been tightened and had moved up to burn a hole in the top of the plastic and I burnt my finger on it (how I found it). Anyway, he said he'd replace that, so no problem. T

Here are my complaints...
1... not powerful enough (I use a corded variable speed dremel with the long snake-like shank... LOVE it.. so I guess I won't be switching)
2...can't see the nails when grinding.
3... when you screw off the top to change the bit, if you put the bit all the way down into the chuck like it's supposed to be, the sandpaper only comes up about halfway to some of the holes so a toenail could get caught in the area not taken up by the sanding drum... plus you have to find the middle where it works with all the holes.

Things I like...
1. I love this for beginners learning how to dremel nails... even a beginner isn't going to grind grind grind and know (from experience) where to stop, they are going to tap it, look, and tap it again, look, etc. This product, I believe was made more for a pet owner as the inventor is a pet owner, not a groomer. He also said that you will start seeing commercials everywhere, TV, magazines, etc... so it will be widespread. He is very nice, but I would like to see something more powerful or an adaptor for my corded dremel.. may have to talk to him about that :)
2. I like the dust inhibitor thing
3. I like the weight, it's very light for such a large piece. Also, well balanced.

On getting them smooth, if you watch the video, you have to put in alot of wrist action and go in a roundish way instead of straight onto the nail... doesn't take any more time really, just a different way to get used to.

All in all... my assistant is using it BUT the top has been taken off and she's now grinding knuckles again ... her only complaint is that she can't see to grind which is why she took it off. Oh well.

After a week I still like it. I haven't had problems rounding the nail. Being able to see the nail is an issue. Mostly I use it in short strokes and then look at the nail. It CANNOT be used on curved nails. I've also had more difficulty using it on the dew claw.

I still like it better than a dremel. I have skinned my knuckles several times and I have caught the hair up in the attachment. For those things alone I prefer that Peticure.

To late I just ordered an elite. I have had a fear of using a dremmel for so long now, but I am getting requests for it so time to bite the bullet and learn. I went to lowe's and checked out the stylis, but darn I just couldn't get past the safety issues. So I checked out the pedicure site and read everything. They really give you a lot of information and the safty features seem great so I should be getting mine soon. Happy nail filing! Paws around Town

I don't think you are going to be disappointed. Even with the few negatives it is still better and safer than using a dremel.

I have a phobia of dremels. A friend/groomer of mine has the dremel stylus and she actually BROKE a pomeranian tail with it because it got wrapped around. That thing is super powerful and all it takes is ONE strand of fur to get caught and in a nanosecond it will pull anything and everything around it at over 50,000 rpm. Think about that! I am NEVER using dremels. I just have my Groomer's Helper for the biters, nice sharp clippers and a manual nail file and everyone is happy and the worst injury is just a quicked nail.

I can see that the peticure is not foolproof. I'm sure a hair can get caught in the hole somehow and still pull--probably not as dangerous but still.

With the cap on I think it is practically impossible to catch the hair. The hole is small, so I don't see how the hair could catch.

Yeah, I turned my Peticure on high and rubbed it on my (long) hair and nothing happened, LOL. I was actually anticipating it right after it touched my head, and got a little worried, but nope- nothing caught up! It is a little different as far as being able to see what you're doing and I have to spend some extra time getting the nails nice and rounded, but all in all, I really like it. I still use my regular dremel for shorthaired bath dogs, b/c I'm so much faster with it, but all my drop coats and cockers have been getting the peticure.

A nice product!! :)

Hello Everyone,

I am so sorry about the bad batteries and bad customer service. I would be angry and upset too. I made the mistake of outsourcing my customer service. I instructed them to take care of you but from what I hear, it is not getting done. The Chinese Manufacturer confirmed that that batteries were dysfunctional and the problem is getting fixed!
Such a bummer to make such a positive introduction to the pro community at the ISCC only to have this terrible battery problem fall on my head.I really wanted to make you happy. My dream was to create a solution for the whole "rotary tool nail problem" and help this industry.I have been caught up in the whole "commercial dream" thing that I'm doing and have not taken care of you. I AM SORRY!

Now I will find a way to make you satisfied

One, I will completely refund your money, no questions asked PERSONALLY
214 298 7367

Two, I will get you a new functional battery or unit as fast as I can..PERSONALLY( I am having new ones made now)

Three, which is a creative solution that may make sense is this...
I will mail you a peticure guard that fits on the end of a/your Dremel product. The thread on the end is adaptable for dremel brand units
This way you may have the benefits of the guard with a reliable motor and battery.

Note; The ISCC is re testing the product It is being resent out into the field...
They tested the "guard" against my claims and not the battery! Not to mention, they tested with a functional battery. My apologies to the ISCC...

Please give peticure another chance,
Sincere apologies, Jayden Drelinger

Thanks for your honest input. I have been upset because a lot of you guys got bad batteries which I am totally bumming about. My rotary tools are manufactured in China and the guard that I invented I manufacture in the USA(dallas). Had such a great time at the ISCC classic and it felt amazing to see my vision that Ive worked for 3.5 years on come to fruition. Really wanted to create something to contribute to pets and the industry;)
I will have available JUST THE GUARD for those who are happy with their Dremels(and to help mend my bad battery problem)
Love to send you one if you like no cost ph.214 223 9653

I really liked the idea of the dust cover. That is really the only difference I saw. There literally is no visibility so, you do not save any time with this tool, but, you rarely, if ever catch hair in it. I loved that feature. Was cordless the only way came? What if you were in mid grind and the battery ran down? How long does it take to recharge?

That having been said I think I will wait until someone comes up with a viable dust cover not made in China and an English speaking customer service department. Just my .02

The one I bought had two battery packs, so when the one ran low I just popped in the other one. It only took a few hours to recharge.

According to Jayden the dust cover was made in USA, it was the defective battery that was made in China. Customer Service was outsourced, but he didn't say that whether it was outsourced out of the country. I spoke with their customer service and they were perfectly nice, helpful and sounded as American and I am.

He clearly is getting the battery problem fixed. It is an excellent product!

I have spoken with and emailed many of you who have had the battery problem with the peticure elite. All of you have been so nice despite ...thank you.

I really wanted to do something positive when I created the peticure guard that made the groomers job better(and the pet);). This means a lot to me...

Again I apologize for the battery problem and I am burning the oil to fix it as fast as possible. It is something that fell on me without warning. I am looking at about a 45 days to get new good batteries from China. The Chinese have clearly identified the problem and are fixing it.
In the meantime for those who like the benefits peticure safe guard as so many of you have addressed, I have the guard available now that adapts to Dremel rotary tools. The Dremel 10.6 V lithium ion battery tool is very good and dependable. If you enjoy the benefits of the guard, this may be something that you are interested in. For those with this problem, I will take care of you.

For the peticure elite itself
I get you the batteries personally when they arrive(early FEB)

Hey Guys,

The peticure guard attachment is now available too at www.peticure.com.

Now it may be purchased by itself and fits all Dremel models except the minimite and stylus.

The attachment eliminates the projectile nail debris, accidental abrasion, winding of hair and really helps control the nail on the spinning bit(no more awkward skips and bumps)

If you already own a dremel this will take your rotary tool practice to another level in safety and performance.

Hello,

For those who enjoy using a rotary tool such as a Dremel, peticure has the peticure guard that adapts to Dremel rotary tools available at www.peticure.com.
Now you can get a FREE 20pcs filing bands with your safe guard order!
The guard adapts to every model EXCEPT the minimite and the stylus.
The full list of compatible models is on the product page

The peticure guard improves the use of rotary tools and eliminates the former problems in these ways.

1. It eliminates projectile debris. The peticure guard takes the debris out of the groomers eyes and the dogs;)The debris is conveniently stored inside.
2. The guard greatly reduces the possibility of hair winding in the bit. When selecting the appropriate size opening, hair winding is no longer a issue.
3. It eliminates any chance of accidental abrasion or contact with the drum to the dog or the groomer.

4. Moreover, the selectable size openings HOLD the nail in place while being filed on the spinning bit. This means no more awkward skips and bumps that is attributed to open face rotary tool use.
These improvements provide the user with a significant safety advantages and much more control!

The only negative that remains that is attributed to rotary tool use is the presence of excess friction if not used correctly.
I have implemented DEMO videos on the peticure web site to help address this issue(5,000 rpm limit,3-5 sec intervals, and alternation).
The Videos also help instruct with quick finding, technique for rounding the nail, receding the quick, positioning for the home user, introducing peticure, and more!
I have even more videos on the way;)
I have a very thin but powerful corded model available in early March.

Thank you , Jayden Drelinger

Is there anywhere in Europe (or the Netherlands to be more specific) to buy the guard?

Candee, the only place this product is available at this time the way I understand it is from the Peticure Company. peticurefix@yahoo.com is the address he has posted here. Try emailing him and see what he says. I dont think hes reading the posts here, just making them.

One of my yorkie clients bought one, going off of a yorkie website suggestion. She said it was going to take at least 2 weeks for her corded one to be shipped out, but I get to play with it once she gets it. Holding off on opinion until I get to.

When I spoke to Jared last time he said he was going to have the corded ones available he THOUGHT by APF which is the first weekend in March.

I love my cordless Peticure, just hate that the batteries didn't hold up. I am using the guard now on a great Lithium Ion battery powered dremel, but I cant WAIT to get my battery operated Peticure back up and running.

Alright, I got my new battery for the Peticure and there is a difference in it!! I used it on the whole day of dogs and it still had power. The old batteries barely got through 2-3 dogs. I like it alot, thank-you Jayden, goodluck to you, thanks for making it right with us, you are the best.

I saw this on TV and thought it looked great. I don't bother with a dremmel because it takes sooo long and time is money so I just clip. If a dog has super sharp nails or jumps up a lot, I file the front feet so they aren't clawing anyones skin, esp, in summer. But this looked like it would get the job done faster then a normal small dremmel. So you recommend it?

I just got my batteries and I LOVE my Peticure. It is so much easier to use compared to a dremel. I've missed it this month of so I haven't been able to use it.

OH MY GOD! I love my Peticure…after just two times of using it I feel totally comfortable filing my baby’s nails. I was never comfortable using the dremmel because it bumped and skipped and felt very unstable. Let's not forget about the dust flying everywhere. This new guard thingy completely takes away those problems. I can get the nail rounded and smooth in just seconds. Thank you Mr Drelinger for such a wonderful product.

I wonder how many rpms the elite has? I tried checking the website and I couldnt find the answer to that. Where I work, we have policies as to how powerful our dremel can be. I have a corded one from Master Grooming Tools, and I am not even allowed to use it because it goes up to 18,000 rpms. Grrr. Anyone know?

I was wondering how the new corded peticure was working out.. I'm really interested in getting one (prefer corded, would consider battery-op). Right now I just clip.. but the nails always end up so sharp! I want something to smooth them, I'm not to worried about having to take length off (I can clip then file).

Dremels terrify me. The very first time I used one, I got hair caught up. Fortunately the pet wasn't injured, but I haven't wanted to use one since.

I just ordered one this weekend with the cord. A bit pricey, but I figured it was worth a shot. I have used the dremel with a battery and that kept falling out. I now have the one from Petedge and hair gets caught in and I keep getting my own skin with it. I'll let ya know what I think when I get it.

I have one of the corded and the cordless. Both are great a filing the nails smooth AND hair cannot get caught in them. I had a dog on Saturday that actually bit the hed of the peticure and if it had been my Dremel we would have had a mess needless to say. The protective cover kept that from being a problem and he got his nails filed.
